“She is energetic and strong, a hard worker.”
What is the Tamarindo Project?
In our communities, there are many single mothers and the unemployment rate is nearly 80%. We saw an opportunity to help women learn entrepreneurial skills and create a chance for them to have a better life for themselves and their children. From harvest to selling to the creation of jewelry, the Tamarindo Project provides about 40 women with jobs each year.
How we use the Tamarindo Project?
After the harvest of the tamarind pods, the women learn to peel and prepare them to sell in the markets. We take the seeds from leftover tamarindos, not going to the local markets, to create our jewelry. With the jewelry, we are able to continue to provide work during the offseason.
Why we use the Tamarindo Project?
In this community, it is rare to find a job, even more so if you are a woman. This project is dedicated to providing a way for women to learn leadership and entrepreneurial skills as well as provide a way to support their families.
